LaStill Tools Do Not Double In Size, we keep them in check
On November 18, 2025, Cloudflare experienced a global outage affecting one-fifth of the internet. Services including X, ChatGPT, and Spotify became unreachable for several hours.
The cause? A configuration file doubled in size unexpectedly, exceeded system limits, and crashed their global infrastructure.
At LaStill International, we manufacture tools to Standard 2046. Our tools do not double in size.
When LST-TOOL-HW-2046.12 (our 12mm hex wrench) is certified at 12mm ±0.03mm, it maintains that specification across all operational conditions. The wrench does not spontaneously become 24mm during deployment. Manufacturing parameter changes upstream do not cause deployed tools to exceed tolerance.
Cloudflare's incident report documents a component that doubled in size during normal operation, exceeded design specifications, and caused cascading infrastructure failure. Recovery required identifying the dimensional variance and manually replacing the oversized component across all operational units simultaneously.
This sequence describes a manufacturing defect.
Our latest technical advisory examines why dimensional stability is fundamental to reliable tool design—whether physical or digital.
